When did you join DC Thomson?

What’s your role in DC Thomson?
I started as an office junior delivering mail. From there I moved onto Finance, News Accounts then to our Payroll department which in 1984 was called Cashiers. I now look after the HR Operations team, delivering a HR and payroll service to a number of our Group companies.

What makes your working day enjoyable?
No two days are ever the same so it is very interesting. There is always more to learn and more that we can do to make our service better and more efficient but it is being part of a really good team that makes it enjoyable for me.

Tell us a little about the part you play in making DC Thomson a success?
Ultimately we make sure all of our employees are paid on time each month and paid the right amount!. There are lots of other elements to the role, particularly reporting information to HMRC and updating our systems and process to meet the ever changing legislative requirements that we have to.  The HR Ops team is very much a bridge between our employee information and our accounting data so it is critical that we have slick and efficient processes to meet so many different demands. There is always a Payroll deadline looming!

What is your highlight of being part of DC Thomson?
Still enjoying my role after so many years is a highlight for me!
