What’s your role in DC Thomson?
I joined the Procurement team as a Tactical Buyer with my role being to support our group companies with supply base activity that requires a more tactical and short leadtime response and approach. Following a promotion, my role is now Sourcing Manager for Operations. I focus on creating sourcing strategies under Operations which can cover areas such as facilities management, fleet, travel and fit-out for new buildings to name a few areas. Our team work closely with the end-users of the service to guide them through the supplier sourcing process and ensure we get the best value from our supply base.
What makes your working day enjoyable?
Working with such a diverse stakeholder group across such a diverse mix of group companies. It’s also a great opportunity to showcase Procurement as a profession and the benefit that can be derived for the company. Also, working with a great friendly team with a wealth of knowledge and experience.
Tell us a little about the part you play in making DC Thomson a success?
Working with stakeholders across all groups, we try to eliminate cross-overs and duplications of services and spend across the group companies. We combine group spend where possible to leverage the best value from deals and work with our stakeholders to reduce their costs through supplier negotiations and long-term sourcing strategies. In a simpler format, we create added value and deliver savings to the business.
What is your highlight of being part of DC Thomson?
In terms of highlights, I have a few: the culture and people. Everybody is really friendly and supportive of one another and always willing to help. The environment is a really inspiring place to be immersed in and still retains a family atmosphere even for its size! Another highlight would be being part of the DC Thomson empire. Working for a company and family that has such a rich heritage and such a diverse mix of businesses and future plans – the future looks exciting!
